4 Motivational Tips for Getting Physical Activity

I used to find myself having the best intentions to get some type of physical activity in by packing
my gym bag the night before I wanted to exercise. However, I have found that although my intentions were good, packing just my gym bag wasn’t enough to motivate myself to get to the gym. Our behaviorsaround our intentions are truly what matters most!

I want to share you with all a few personal action steps that I have put into place as ways to motivate myself to reach my fitness goals.

  1. Yes, I still pack my gym bag but I also set not only 1 alarm but 4 alarms with different sounds effects. I have noticed that I am less inclined to click snooze when I hear a variety of noises going off.
  2. On Sunday evening at 8:00pm, I take 10-15 minutes to organize an exercise routine. I familiarize myself with how to perform the exercises prior to getting to the gym. This increases my confidence and motivates me to do the exercises when I get there. I look for workout ideas (with example videos) on free apps like Pinterest or Instagram.
  3. In college, my two friends and I went to the gym together almost every day. They held me accountable for quite some time. After a while of having this accountability in place, I noticed that even when they didn’t show up to the gym, I still did. I encourage you all to find a workout buddy!
  4. Lastly, I take progress photos. Often, we all wait to see an immediate transformation. I think this may lead to false hopes because we, as humans, get to see ourselves every day and it is hard for our eyes to make note of the LITTLE changes. When taking progress photos every 4 weeks, I get to see these changes in myself and it inspires me to keep going!

Mental and physical strength really can grow in the moments that you think you can’t go on but you keep going anyway. If you can still hear the doubt inside your head, turn up your passion!! Believe in yourself. Own it. Don’t give up!
